" Latino Fashion Week is the only event of its kind in the United State featuring local, national and international designers. Wednesday, October 1, 2014, Purple Carpet Opening Night of Latino Fashion Week will feature some of Chicago top local celebrities on the runway and unveil the Purple Purse designed by actress Kerry Washington from the hit show Scandal. Washington has designed a limited-edition purple purse that will be distributed to community leaders. The purse is intended to represent the center of a women's financial domain, even as purple is recognized as the color of national domestic violence awareness.

The Foundation also is encouraging the public to participate in the Purple Purse Challenge by donating to local not-for-profit organizations that support financial empowerment services for domestic violence survivors.
